| Switching from PC to a MAC |
[04 Jul 2008|11:19am] |
So I currently have a PC desktop and a Mac laptop. I'm thinking of getting a Mac desktop (my PC's a total lemon), but I have one concern. I currently have a 700GB external hard-drive with all my music and stuff on it. Now, when I plug it into my MacBook I can access the pictures and videos and stuff, but I am not able to access my over 100GB of music on my MacBook, and I can't just give up all my music. And my MacBook doesn't even see the music as being there. When I go into my music folder it sees it as a bunch of blank space...
So my question is: If I got a Mac desktop, how could I go about ensuring that I can access this music and continue to use the external hard-drive with the Mac?

| HELP - iced tea spill. |
[03 Jul 2008|07:51pm] |
So I accidentally spilled some iced tea on my MacBook Pro, but it didn't go on the keyboard. It actually went down between the screen and the keyboard (where the laptop folds).
Fortunately, the computer still works totally normal, but the exposure on my screen seems to be screwed up; everything is really bright and I have a hard time reading things. I was just wondering if anyone could, off the top of their head (with a poor explanation, on my part), help me out. Also, would anyone know the price range of getting it fixed?
I know I didn't give a very good explanation -- it's really hard to explain -- so if you have a question, just ask me. Thanks!

| macbook mini-dvi to video adapter |
[03 Jul 2008|07:04pm] |
I recently bought an apple mini-dvi to video adapter. i have a regular sharp television and use a basic rca (yellow, red, white) plugs. i got my desktop to show up on my tv but i had to reduce my computers resolution to about 400X600 or something like that. i tried to watch a show off of the nbc website and if i selected full screen it didnt fit my tv screen. i had to leave it on normal and just position the video so it fit on my tv. this is what it looked like:
so on my tv i had the whole web toolbar, etc. what do i have to adjust to make whatever i want to watch, or websites, fit to the screen that is being displayed on my tv? if anyone has any suggestions it'd be greatly appreciated!

We're playing a long list of songs for the kids in a couple of weeks as part of a huge fundraising event (I deign to call it a rock concert because there is nothing rock about a creaky swagger and a cocked hip that is showing signs of wear ever since college days. Don't laugh, okay. I am compelled play songs by SECOND HAND SERENADE. Egad! Tears are threatening to pool around some scuffed converse high-tops ).
Just the other week, Aa and I were talking about how grating it gets when people thump their singing abilities and name drop multiple 'performance' venues (when did the church trade the altar for a stage?). Granted no one here is a fantastic singer, but when it comes to this, expected outcome and actual standards often run into floatsam-in-the gutter mill. Perhaps it is really truth, that regardless of age and place - the moment Opportunity (and a few guitars) show up, people come round and proclaims that they can sing/ "I'll sing for you!". They truly believe so. There is really no other way except to smile and have a wider berth.
The only other certainty about a 'band' - ad hoc or otherwise is that you will get friends who glower at each other secretly when the other's back is turn (and later fall out), you are likely to find personalities in the form of the self-proclaimed lead guitarist who "will not play this song because I can't bring myself to play it" and of course, there will always be one one person who sincerely believes he/she should be singing this song. Usually the drummer. I have no discernable personality whatsover as the de-facto female, of course. I do as I'm told (hence Secondhand serenade).
I thought this sort of schoolhouse drama was curtained behind dingy doors of the guitar club ten years ago. Boys who hung their guitars at groin level and channelled hendrix and malmsteen, fret tapping behind their backs.
Also, there are a few different types of guys who play the guitar. The parallel is how some people... you know that they're triathletes, they play in a band, they drive a fast car within a minute of talking to them. It is their perogative to inform you as such. Some people, have subtlety on their side.
Lets just say my First Impression imprinting of certain people is about to be erased and re-written, and I thank God I'm in love with the latter sort. Ahem, modesty does become you, darlin'.

- "Okay, okay! I take it back. Unfuck you!" - "How many times do I have to flush before you go away?" - "This day sure was a total waste of make-up" - "This isn’t an office. It’s HELL with fluorescent lighting" - "I started out with nothing still have most of it left" - "I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me" - "Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed" - "Do they ever shut up on your planet?" - "I’m not your type. I’m not inflatable" - "Don’t worry. I forgot your name too." - "Not all men are annoying. Some are dead." - "Wait...I’m trying to imagine you with a personality" - "Ambivalent? Well yes and no." - "A hard-on doesn’t count as personal growth." - "If assholes could fly, this place would be an airport.

On a different note; I would like for us to have a Summer-themed contest, maybe having to do with fruit or outdoor activities! But I want to make sure people are actually going to participate first, so reply here if you're interested!

Having a mouse, I've realized, means I can scroll rapidly through any webpage. This is a fantastic rediscovery! And! I bought a book today (happiness) and resolved a big problem.
But it's no fun crying over sad Chinese love songs. That really breaks my heart.

| NEVER work with amateurs |
[01 Jul 2008|04:45pm] |
I shot a wedding back in December - you know, one of those "Hey, you do video, can you shoot our wedding?" Me being the nice person said, "Sure." There was a lady at my church who had the same camera and I asked her if we could set her camera in the back and she would NOT MOVE IT. Of course, during the wedding I look back and she is moving the camera. Anyway, she also shot in 16:9. ARG!
So, I have FCP 2 (not what I use at work, just what I could get my hands on for this wedding). What in the world can I do to make this video look decent with two different aspect ratios?
